After a rousing rundown of our vegan white wines last week, we’ll now be looking through the punchy vegan reds in our arsenal for May’s London Wine Fair.

What better day to do this than World Malbec Day?

Before we get on to that weighty number though, we’ll start with something a bit lighter. This Cabernet Franc from Savage Grace, Washington State is delightfully fruity and light, with a distinct pang of stewed rhubarb complete with a more subtle earthiness. This would be a perfect dish to match a simple tomato sauce (vegan) pasta dish.

Next up is something a bit bolder from just down the road. This Two Mountain red blend from Rattlesnake Hills, Washington is packed full of berries, cherries, leather and oak. Bold, but perfectly balanced, and a great match for some saucy BBQ seitan skewers.

Finally, it’s the birthday bottle itself. A delicious Malbec made over a kilometre above sea level by Viniterra; the same winery behind IWSC 2017’s ‘Best Malbec in the World’. A deeply rich mix of dark cherries, vanilla and coffee, this wine would facilitate peak indulgence alongside a vegan chocolate cake with nut butter chocolate ganache.

That’s enough for today as this blog-writer is now ravenous. Enjoy a nice Malbec today if you are partaking (it is hump day after all) and look out for our Fizzy Vegan wines later this week.
