Putting the Joigny into January
At Wine Rascals HQ we are celebrating #BourgogneWeek; such an important French wine region – simultaneously fragmented, complicated and ever evolving.
Croix Saint-Jacques have produced two winning wines from this renowned region – a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir. Located in Joigny – 40 km north of Chablis, this vineyard has a history of over 1000 years. In the Middle Ages, Croix Saint-Jacques boasted 540 hectares, protected by the forest Othe and the climate of the Yonne. Today, the estate has 12 hectares and is owned by Manuel Janisson (who also owns a vineyard in Champagne). Because of this precise terroir, it gives these grapes its unique character.
On the nose of the Chardonnay, you can expect floral, honey and pear elements. On the palate, enjoy floral notes, finishing with apple, grapefruit and lime. This wine is well-balanced and complex throughout.
Regarding the Pinot Noir, expect aromas of cherries, white pepper, coriander and spicy notes. The palate is clean and lively, with layers of redcurrant and toastiness.
