We are delighted to announce that one of the vineyards in our Rascal family scooped 2 trophies at the Sommelier Wine Awards today. None could be more deserving than the incredibly talented and friendly Laszlo of Gizella Pince Tokaj.
With their Barát Hárslevelű bagging a Silver and the Furmint being commended, Gizella are really proving the potential of the famous Tokaj region and the indigenous grapes that are born there. Gizella have been a big seller for us this year, and with such small parcels, you have to act fast before their gone, and we’re the only supplier in the world who’ve got ‘em.
The SWA had this to say for the Hárslevelű:
“floral peach and apricot on the nose, lovely ripe fruit on the palate with nectarine and hits of quince and chalky granite”, with “elegant balance, grapey richness and good use of oak”.
Whereas Tony Stones, our head rascal and judge at IWC for 6 years had this to say about them;
“The Gizella wines continually demonstrate fantastic winemaking ability and consistency. Their Furmints are beautifully balanced with amazing complexity and elegance. The first time I tasted their wines I was wowed and they just seem to get better and better each year”
We’ve just tasted the new vintages of these wines too, and, somehow, they’re still getting better. Be sure also to check out their equally stunning Szent Tamás Hárslevelű and Szamorodni sweet wine in our brochure.
A little while back, we tried to discover the secret behind Lazlo’s genius in our spotlight of Hungarian wine, but we’re still not quite sure how these guys are doing it!
