That big yellow blob in the sky is something we aren’t use to in this country, especially without a haze of clouds blocking it from our view. So when it does makes an appearance for a few brief moments, it’s important to have your wine choice sorted to make the most of it.
At Rascal HQ, we have been experimenting on which wines are best to enjoy when the sun comes out to play. To help you narrow it down, here are our Top 5 Summer Wines.
5 – Winterling Sparkling Pinot Noir Rose
From the Pfalz region in Germany, this sparkling Pinot Noir rose is a great choice in the sun. The colour of this wine draws you in straight away and the light, red berry flavours are matched with a short hit of mint. Something not seen every day on a wine list but offering an exciting, interesting alternative to prosecco will be sure to get your customers keen try something different.
4 – Vina Moraima Aba de Trasumia Albariño
This classic example of Albariño is just pure class. Salty notes from the coastal vineyards, lime and peach on the nose with a fresh, light feel. What’s not to like? Dry white wines are the top selling category in the UK and Albariño is leading the charge in the premium sector.
3 – Louisvale Unwooded Chardonnay
As soon as the sun comes out, we want to light the coals and have a bbq. This white wine is great with the grilled chicken, and can even stand up to the burnt bits around the edge. Packed with flavour, light tropical fruit nose will leave you wanting more. This wine is a great house option, especially by the glass and delivers a fresh, clean, dry white wine for your customers.
2 –Carminucci Belato DOCG Offida Pecorino
This is one of our guilty pleasures at Rascal HQ. A new find for us and we think one of the best still white wines to drink this summer. Green apple, pineapple and a hint of banana followed by bags of acidity makes you want to sip well into the night. Pinot Grigio is still a really popular choice for customers, so having a wine to upsell to will make it easier for the customer to pick wines with a bit more rascal about them.
1 – Seigneurie De Peyrat Prestige Rose
Frosted bottle, glass stopper and deliciousness inside. What isn’t there to like about this rose from one of Languedoc’s oldest and most respected vineyard châteauxs. Delicate, full of red fruit character and crisp acidity on the finish makes this our number one wine to drink in the sun. Provence is the talk of the summer, but can sometimes come with a premium price tag. This rose comes from a bit further round the coast and offers more bang for your buck. Similar in style, but with more emphasis on the fresh fruit flavours. This Rose, elegant in style and presentation will be the talk of the table.
